COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Syracuse University football team will play Friday night games on Sept. 12 against Colgate and Oct. 31 against North Carolina while classes are in session. Parking is allowed in University Avenue Garage for those with permits from 3:30 p.m. on these dates—Quad, West Campus and Orange lots will be restricted at 4 p.m.  Syracuse University

  • The Grow Out Boutique is now open in Manlius at 604 East Seneca Street—selling gently used baby and toddler clothes, shoes, and toys. Owner Jenn Chapman started the store after running a consignment business to support military families and will hold seasonal sales to offer affordable options for young families.  CNY Central
  • City Hardware, a family-owned store that served the community for 79 years, will close next month after third-generation owner John Calley announced the decision. The store at 214 S. Geddes St. has been a go-to spot for home repair parts since 1946.  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Dan Frigolette, who grew up in Baldwinsville and attended Syracuse University, returns for a homecoming show today at The Comedy Vault at Mohegan Manor — he built his career on the road and brings his unique single-guy humor with lively audience interaction.  CNY Central
  • A colorful 455-foot-long mural titled 'Powered by Wonder' now brightens the concrete railroad bridge behind the Museum of Science and Technology in Armory Square—artist Tommy Lincoln worked with over 100 volunteers during United Way of CNY’s Day of Caring last month.  WAER

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In July, rent in Oswego County rose to about $1,432—up more than $137 or 10.6% from July 2024—according to Zillow. Rents have been climbing steadily since the Covid-19 pandemic and continue to impact many local tenants.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cicero town board overrode the town supervisor to extend police chief Saverio 'Steve' Rotunno Jr.'s contract to 2029 with an annual salary of $113,644 — the agreement also requires the town to pay his current pension if the state does not grant a waiver.  Syracuse.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thousands of New York home care workers must complete a physical exam by Oct. 1 to stay certified—many are racing to meet the recertification requirement after CDPAP reduced its team from over 600 administrators to one this summer. If workers do not recertify, Medicaid payments will stop, which may affect care for up to 200,000 patients.  Syracuse.com
