- ➤ St. Camillus nursing home in Geddes agreed to pay up to $2.4 million to settle claims that forced 1,130 employees to work through their lunch breaks without pay — the settlement now awaits final approval from U.S. District Judge Anthony Brindisi. Syracuse.com

- ➤ Veterans, military, and spouses will meet local and national employers at Syracuse University's Military Community Job Fair on Sept. 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—the event aims to help translate military skills into civilian work roles. WAER
- ➤ AAA reported yesterday that gas prices in Central New York improved slightly compared to last week - the national average stayed at $3.18. Local averages showed a drop as Syracuse prices fell to $3.17 - a 3-cent decrease from last week. CNY Central

- ➤ The College of Visual and Performing Arts hired nine new full-time faculty for the 2025-26 academic year & Eleanor Holdridge was named the new chair of the Department of Drama. The hires bring skills in studio arts, fashion design, media studies, musical theater, film, and choral studies. Syracuse University
- ➤ SUNY’s new stability plan will force ESF to cut 18.9% of its full-time staff by 2029, raise out-of-state tuition, and boost undergraduate enrollment by 16.1%. - ➤ Syracuse University announced today a partnership with Anthropic to give every student, faculty and staff access to Claude for Education — a tool that supports research and class work. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Environmental advocates are urging lawmakers to pass the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act that will shift packaging waste costs to companies by reducing plastic and banning harmful chemicals—lawmakers will debate the bill in January, and if passed, it could save residents $1.3 billion over the next decade. - ➤ Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on September 21 that nearly 2,800 lead pipes in Syracuse were set to be replaced as part of a $176 million statewide investment in sewer and water improvements—an effort that included $22.8 million in grants and financing to minimize costs for residents. - ➤ Representative Mannion wrote a letter on Sept. 22 urging CMS to investigate serious deficiencies at the Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation after reports of neglect, understaffing, and unsafe care led to hospitalizations and deaths + he demanded answers to nine questions, including why the facility was not inspected, and expects timely action to restore trust and improve patient safety.
