- ➤ Family Weekend returns today through Sept. 28 in the Orange community (families check in at 10 a.m. today, attend the Residential Living Showcase at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, and watch a club rugby game on Saturday). Syracuse University
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two students were taken into custody after a non-member threw pork on the floor during a Rosh Hashanah dinner at Zeta Beta Tau on Tuesday, September 23rd—police and university officials will decide soon if the incident will be charged as an antisemitic hate crime and lead to further actions. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Eight Syracuse University students and alumni were named as the 2025 Fulbright recipients and five others were chosen as alternates through the program that funds teaching jobs and study grants in over 140 countries. The awards give placements in the United Kingdom, Slovak Republic, Belgium, Madagascar, Spain, Moldova + Mongolia. Syracuse University
- ➤ Pamela Odom, the incoming schools superintendent, is set to take over on Oct. 31 and will hold four community forums next month—at which she will answer questions and explain her plans for the district serving more than 18,000 students. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Two teams from the School of Architecture were named winners in the national Steel Design Student Competition. Jing and Zhang’s project, Cloud-81: Syracuse Urban Incubator, used I-81 demolition to create a hub for recycling waste and will be shown at upcoming national events—helping students expand their design skills. - ➤ Syracuse University fell to 75 out of 436 colleges in the U.S. News and World Report rankings announced on September 23rd, marking a seventh straight year of decline. - ➤ Bob Faulkner of Syracuse Honey suited up in protective bee gear to tend 10 beehives at South Campus—he said that caring for these bees supports sustainable honey production and educates students on beekeeping. - ➤ Former Mayor Miner declared Syracuse a sanctuary in 2017, but Mayor Walsh calls the term divisive and says the city remains committed to its immigrant communities—working with federal authorities only on serious crimes. The Daily Orange

- ➤ The Ontario County Public Health Department confirmed a case of West Nile Virus in a Finger Lakes resident on September 25—34 cases have been reported statewide. - ➤ Professor Christy Ashby of Syracuse University warned that recent federal announcements linking acetaminophen use during pregnancy to autism have confused many and harmed trust in public health—she urged that the public listen to autistic voices and support research that focuses on effective inclusion. - ➤ Syracuse brothers Greg and Colin Cleghorn built a $200 million real estate empire by first buying $1 homes and managing rentals and then expanding to industrial properties in 14 states—demonstrating a major shift in their business focus. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Clear Investment Group is set to renovate the dilapidated Skyline Apartments on James Street after taking over the troubled property in 2023.
