- ➤ The Syracuse airport will host a Wings for All dry run next month to let travelers with autism and developmental disabilities practice going through security and boarding a plane—an event designed to ease travel stress during future flights. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Construction on the Hoosock-Jensen Salina Community Center is nearing completion on Brewerton Road in Salina — the center is named to honor Lt. Michael Hoosock and Officer Michael Jensen, who were fatally shot in April 2024 during a standoff. It will offer programs for youth, teens and seniors and will host events with its grand opening set for 11 a.m. Oct 11. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Pat Chase, the former director of the Syracuse Vet Center — who later served as a behavioral health consultant with Clear Path for Veterans — discussed the challenges veterans face transitioning to civilian life on CNY Heroes yesterday. WCNY

- ➤ A 16-year-old student from Henninger High School was suspended after throwing a teacher to the ground at 9 a.m. today during a fight—police said the teacher was later evaluated at a hospital. Syracuse.com

- ➤ Replica Erie Canal boat Seneca Chief is docking in Baldwinsville this weekend in honor of the Erie Canal 200th anniversary—its journey includes tree planting ceremonies at every port as it sails for Syracuse today, arriving at Onondaga Lake Park around noon and staying until 5 p.m. Sunday. - ➤ The University will hold two showcase events as part of its strategic plan 'Leading With Distinction.' The first event for veterans and military families will be held on Oct. 20 at the Schine Student Center—Rooms 228 and 229—and will feature presentations and breakout sessions, while a second event on Experiential Inquiry is scheduled for Feb. 23. - ➤ Professor Hasanovic received an NSF ExLENT award and will lead the Q-SUCCEED-CNY program that offers six semesters of hands-on training in semiconductor, optics and quantum technologies for adult learners. The program includes evening and weekend workshops — culminating in a five-day bootcamp — and brings together local partners from higher education and industry. Syracuse University

- ➤ Nearly 60,000 drivers received warning letters after Syracuse school zone cameras caught them speeding in the first two weeks of the new program—fines of $50 will begin on November 3rd when the 60-day warning period ends. WAER
- ➤ Sen. Joe Griffo from Rome urged New Yorkers to oppose the draft energy plan that outlines a clean and reliable energy system through 2040 because it will restrict choices and raise costs for construction and power. The New York Energy Planning Board is accepting public comments until October 6 on the state website. WAER

- ➤ Former Syracuse defensive lineman Arthur Jones died on October 3rd at age 39, the Baltimore Ravens announced on Friday afternoon. He played for SU from 2005 to 09 and later joined the NFL—helping the Ravens win a Super Bowl. The Daily Orange
