- ➤ Francis House will host its annual fundraiser There’s No Place Like Home on October 15 at the New York State Fair Exposition Center from 5:30 p.m.—8:30 p.m. The event raises money to keep a home open for people with terminal illnesses and will offer an open bar, gourmet food stations, raffles, and a silent auction. - ➤ I-81 northbound in Syracuse will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights for bridge steel installation beginning today until Oct. 18 — drivers must follow a detour via I-481 north, Exit 1, west on Rock Cut Road, north on East Brighton Avenue and west on East Glen Avenue to rejoin I-81. - ➤ The Christopher Columbus statue still stands in Columbus Circle five years after Mayor Ben Walsh announced plans to move it amid community debates. The Heritage Park Advisory Committee recommended lowering the statue and adding local memorabilia for a reimagined Heritage Park—city leaders have not yet decided on any changes. CNY Central
