- ➤ Barb's Bistro is open today at the historic McNeil Firehouse on LeMoyne College campus with Salt City Coffee support + Fire Chief Michael Monds said he hopes the building stands for another fifty to a hundred years. - ➤ The developer behind Township 5 in Camillus is planning a new mixed—use project near a shopping plaza on a 20-acre lot. The plan has about 175 homes—townhomes and apartments with 10% for middle-income residents—and construction will start in the spring once the town changes the zoning. Syracuse.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Syracuse University will hold Remembrance Week (Oct. 19 to Oct. 25) to honor the 270 victims of the Pan Am 103 bombing on Dec. 21, 1988 over Lockerbie; planned activities include a candlelight vigil, a 35-minute sitting in solidarity on Oct. 22, a film screening, and an Act Forward Symposium (6 p.m. on Oct. 23) in the Allyn Innovation Center, all free and open to the public. - ➤ Crouse Hospital in Syracuse will receive undisclosed state funds to upgrade its NICU, expand outpatient services & build a new lab through a new partnership with Northwell Health. Other hospitals will get money from a $2.6 billion program to form an integrated care network as debates over federal healthcare cuts continue during the ongoing shutdown. CNY Central
- ➤ Luke Radel, a Syracuse University student from New Hartford, was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on Jan. 6 and completed 12 rounds of chemotherapy at Upstate Cancer Center before reaching remission on Feb. 4—he now values every day he has. CNY Central
