- ➤ FustCharles, a certified public accounting firm in Syracuse, announced eight promotions for employees hired in recent years who are working toward their CPA licenses — the moves aim to strengthen the firm’s accounting team. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Dispensary by the BuddBoyz—formerly The Herbal Center—is now open at 918 N. Salina St. in Syracuse under new owner Rodney Haymes, who holds a license to sell hemp-derived cannabis including THCA and THCP. - ➤ LaFayette school district announced today that Kara Lux, director of special education and grants in Marcellus, will be the new superintendent pending contract negotiations. She is expected to start in December or January — replacing interim superintendent Daniel Bowles. Syracuse.com

- ➤ Mayor Ben Walsh announced that the Division of Business Development will host a public meeting for the Valley Plaza Grocery Store project on Oct 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McKinley-Brighton Elementary— the new Super Imperial Market is expected to open in 2026 and create 35 jobs. CNY Central

- ➤ Monday night, Syracuse University hosted the event 'Sex, Tech, and Power: AI’s Impact on Relationships and Safety' led by Health Promotion moderator Leslie Skeffington, where experts discussed how social media and AI may affect dating safety and emotional connections—especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The panel, including Carrie Brown, Jessica Zaccari, Jaime Banks and Rebecca Ortiz, ended with a Q&A session to connect students with campus resources. CitrusTV
- ➤ Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse is using a virtual nurse system that lets a remote nurse admit ER patients and handle discharges, speeding up the process and freeing nurses for bedside care—patients can opt out if they prefer in-person check-ins. The program, which has managed over 1,500 admissions since May and saved more than 1,400 nurse hours, will soon expand to the pediatric hospital. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Onondaga County is hosting lead poisoning prevention events this week as part of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week—county officials will offer a family information session on Wednesday at 6505 S. - ➤ County officials said home building in Onondaga County has slowed even though there is a pipeline of proposals. - ➤ Onondaga County records show 20 business property and land transactions occurred from Oct. 5 to 11 with prices ranging from $23,000 to $1.2M. A commercial multi-use building at 208-18 S.
