CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday evening, the Calentón Music Fest ended Latine Heritage Month at SU with reggaeton beats from DJ Exxtra, energetic dancing by Raíces Dance Troupe, and a lively set by De La Ghetto—he got the crowd excited with his moves. Organized by Las Naranjas, SU Student Government Association, and University Union, the event offered free snacks and festive decor that brought students together. The Daily Orange
- ➤ On Saturday, Phi Delta Epsilon partnered with FADS to host an Anatomy Fashion Show at Syracuse University (benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals). Designers turned body system themes into unique runway looks and raised over $2,600 (helping fund local patient care). The Daily Orange

- ➤ SU’s Community Review Board announced its new 2025-26 leadership on October 26—featuring third-year law student Lindsey Oliver as chair and School of Education professor Stefanie Pilkay as vice chair—and will review civilian appeals of DPS policies while hosting its fall forum with DPS safety chief Mike Bunker later this semester. - ➤ Syracuse officials report that school zone traffic warnings dropped 41% from about 60,000 to 35,300 between Sept. 16 and Sept. 30 as most notices were for speeding and a few for red-light running — full enforcement with fines will start on Nov. 3. CNY Central

- ➤ On Oct. 16, U.S. Soccer released a paper that calls for changes in college soccer with four regional groups, a full year season and a 64-team tournament starting in 2026. Syracuse coach Ian McIntyre said the plan may help grow the game – though his team will not join the Atlantic Coast Conference under the new rules – and that college soccer must evolve. - ➤ Syracuse’s Central Rock Gym hosted the third Salt City Showdown Saturday where climbers of all levels took part in a contest to climb walls in as few tries as possible — showing the event’s friendly spirit. - ➤ Syracuse football lost 41-16 at Georgia Tech on October 25th as 14 true freshmen played while quarterback Rickie Collins made his first start without an interception to mark a step forward in the rebuild.
