  • On November 11th, hundreds of military students ran the Veterans Day 5K on the SU Quad at Syracuse University and later attended a ceremony at Hendrick’s Chapel. Event officials said the early start was designed to honor veterans' sacrifices — a time to reflect on their service.  WAER

  • IKEA will open its Destiny USA store on November 21 at 9:45 a.m.—the 70,000-square-foot outlet in Syracuse will offer 3,000 products, 75 small furniture items and a dining area serving Swedish meatballs, with customers lining up from 7 a.m.  CNY Central
  • Adam Brian Kaiser quit his consulting job and launched his artisanal chocolate business, Adam Brian Chocolat, in downtown Syracuse after perfecting his bonbons at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and now sells them online and at local events—his science background helps him craft each batch with care.  Syracuse.com
  • Business crews are working around the clock to restore the Novelis plant in Scriba after a Sept. 16 fire knocked out its hot mill. The plant—established 15 years ago as a key supplier to automakers after shifting from beverage can production—remains crucial to the U.S. auto industry as production efforts resume.  Syracuse.com
  • Owner Jason Thomas said the historic Arad Evans Inn in Fayetteville will close on November 22 after 30 years, with nine dinner services remaining, while new owners plan to reopen it in summer 2026. Customers are urged to use gift cards or call the restaurant for dinner arrangements before the final service (a change that marks the end of a long era).  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rapper Slick Rick, known as the most sampled hip-hop artist and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, will perform at Westcott Theater in Syracuse on Dec. 12. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 — ticket prices are $40 in advance and $50 on the day with VIP and meet-and-greet options available.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Syracuse families are struggling as the Home Energy Assistance Program remains closed because federal funds have not been released—lawmakers have announced a deal to end the shutdown. County officials said that even if funds are unlocked today, processing would delay payments until November 24.  CNY Central
  • The city of Syracuse has launched an online search tool that lets interested buyers view city-owned vacant lots for sale + the tool also provides links to an online application for submitting offers.  Syracuse.com
