  • The Mary Nelson Youth Center held a holiday gift giveaway on Saturday at Nottingham High School that provided thousands of families with toys, winter essentials, household goods, clothing and even Christmas trees donated by Amazon and Good360. The event aimed to spread holiday cheer and support community needs.  CNY Central

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, Dec. 15, a fire ripped through an East Side home, forcing two families to evacuate and lose nearly all possessions including pets & prompting city officials to order the dangerous building torn down early next week.  Syracuse.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After the ABC World News Tonight feature on Friday, Dec. 19, The Chocolate Pizza Co. in Marcellus saw a flood of online orders that briefly crashed its website — including 500 Amazon orders — and has halted web orders until Jan. 5 while local shoppers visit in person.  Syracuse.com
  • Sally’s Apizza plans to open 255 new locations in 12 states from 2026 — including 25 in New York. The first New York spot will be built at Roosevelt Field next year as construction begins.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Onondaga County Water Authority is urging residents in six towns (Manlius, Pompey, DeWitt, Sullivan, Lenox, and Lincoln) to conserve water after a major transmission main broke. Repairs may take up to a week, and lower water flow and pressure are expected.  Syracuse.com

  • On Thursday, Dec. 18, Carmelo Anthony appeared on NBC Tonight Show and said he remains happy with his son Kiyan’s decision to play for the Orange after returning from Syracuse; he also celebrated his recent Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction.  Syracuse.com
  • High school athletes named Syracuse.com’s All-Central New York fall season all-stars will attend a photo shoot at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. Coaches & families will get invitations soon.  Syracuse.com
  • Nottingham’s boys basketball team won a nail-biting 49-47 game on Friday, Dec. 19 at West Genesee High School in Camillus when Bol Garang made a last-second layup after coach Lamar Kearse called for one final shot.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse hosted Northeastern in an NCAA men’s basketball game on Sunday, Dec. 20 at the JMA Wireless Dome; fans watched the contest at 4 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra (available via free trial on DIRECTV and other providers).  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse University will retire the jerseys of former basketball captains Jim Lee and Rudy Hackett at halftime of the game against North Carolina on Feb. 22, as Lee recalled receiving an emotional text from Hackett (he confirmed their long-awaited honor).  Syracuse.com
  • On Friday, Dec. 19, Nottingham’s Bulldogs edged West Genesee 49 to 47 in a game decided by Bol Garang’s buzzer beating layup — his seamless move from Bishop Grimes boosted the team’s winning streak to four games.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse beat Mercyhurst 76-62 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Wednesday, Dec. 17; head coach Adrian Autry said he sees nothing wrong with the offense even as the team turned the ball over 16 times.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse basketball reporter Mike Waters said in his weekly Mailbox that the last time the Orange lost to a non-Power 5 team and still earned an NCAA bid was in 2018-19 after consecutive losses to Old Dominion and Buffalo; he noted Dome attendance dropped to its lowest count since 2001.  Syracuse.com
