CULTURE NEWS

  • Stella's Diner in Syracuse was named one of America’s best by Food and Wine and remains a local favorite since its 1999 opening at 110 Wolf St.—serving hearty breakfasts and classic comfort food.  Syracuse.com
  • A 100-foot mural featuring classic children’s books was unveiled at Manlius Pebble Hill School during the Festival of the Arts on Saturday. Syracuse-based artist Julianne Teres painted the hallway-long piece based on the books she read as a child.  CNY Central

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 1,000 power customers still face outages this morning after strong winds brought down trees — especially in parts of Onondaga, Oswego, Cayuga and Cortland counties. National Grid and New York State Electric and Gas reported that over 12,000 customers lost power at one point Friday night.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, May 30, Governor Hochul announced that the state requested a Secretarial Disaster Designation after April frost damaged fruit crops, causing near-total losses in some cases. The policy, affecting Central New York (including apple, stone fruit, grapes, and strawberries), may let farmers receive USDA emergency loans.  CNY Central

  • New Hartford overcame a seven-run deficit in the fifth inning to claim the Class A softball title with a 12-11 walkoff win against Chittenango Friday evening in east Syracuse.  Syracuse.com
  • Marcellus clinched its fourth straight Section III title by beating Lowville 21 to 14 on Saturday — the lacrosse team will face Whitney Point in the state subregional on Wednesday at Owego as its seniors aim for their first state championship.  Syracuse.com
  • Between Tuesday and Friday, Section III track meets crowned 16 team champions and many individual winners as teams including Cicero-North Syracuse, Baldwinsville, Auburn, and New Hartford claimed titles in sprints, relays, and field events — showcasing local athletic talent.  Syracuse.com
  • Section III boys lacrosse finals begin on Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, with the Class A final featuring West Genesee versus Cicero-North Syracuse at 3 p.m. + Games stream live on NFHS Network + Tickets cost $12 for adults and $5 for students.  Syracuse.com
  • West Genesee boys lacrosse beat Cicero North Syracuse 14-9 on Saturday afternoon in the Class A final. The Wildcats claimed their 40th sectional title and will face the Section IV champion in the subregional state playoffs at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Ithaca.  Syracuse.com
  • West Genesee and Watertown meet today at 6 p.m. at Onondaga Community College for the Section III Class AA baseball final—West Genesee is undefeated in section play while underdog Watertown earned its spot with key upsets.  Syracuse.com
