- ➤ Enable: The Disability Podcast is a new weekly show on YouTube and major podcast platforms where Kelsey Oates, founder of the inclusive social media app Self-Advocacy Wins, and product advisor Kamisha Heriveaux discuss social media challenges for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities—addressing issues of digital inclusion. - ➤ Deka Eysaman has been hired as the first executive director of the South Side Community Growth Foundation — a group funded by Chedy Hampson to boost affordable housing and local projects for Syracuse’s South Side. - ➤ Work began on the three-story mural of legendary Coach Jim Boeheim in Armory Square on Sept. 21 at 215 West Fayette St.; Philadelphia—based artist Chris B. Murray leads the project and has launched a GoFundMe asking for $75,000 as he expects the mural to finish in about three weeks. CNY Central

- ➤ Eight SU students and alumni were selected for Fulbright awards yesterday— the program sends recipients abroad to study, teach, or research in over 140 countries. The Daily Orange
- ➤ Oren Lyons, 95, turned over a lifetime of letters, documents and photos to Syracuse University’s Special Collections today—items that skilled archivists will soon catalog while remaining under the stewardship of his family and the Onondaga Nation. - ➤ Syracuse University today announced Dan Dillon as senior vice president for business development — a role effective Oct. 20 — to lead efforts expanding the University’s online and post-traditional education offerings while reporting directly to Chancellor Kent Syverud. - ➤ Doctoral students Maheswar Chaudhary and Ashok Thapa in Professor Shalabh Maroo’s lab invented a durable superhydrophobic coating from candle soot—this surface repels water and sticky substances and withstands high heat, fast water jets, and chemical baths. Syracuse University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Between January and March, Syracuse killed 137 deer as part of its tick and deer management plan—recording the second highest total since 2019—while processing the meat for donations to the Food Bank of Central NY. The city will update Common Council and invite public comments at 11 a.m. on Sept. 29 at City Hall to discuss current results and plans for the 2025-26 program. Syracuse.com
